“So when He saw them, He said to them,
"Go, show yourselves to the priests."
And so it was that as they went, they were cleansed."
Luke 17:14
Many of you will recognize this gospel story of the ten lepers. On His way to Jerusalem, Jesus entered a village where He encountered ten lepers who upon seeing Him, cried out for mercy. He immediately responded, instructing them to go show themselves to the priests. Now in those days, the reason a person would go show themselves to the priests was to confirm that they were healed and could now enter society again. What's so interesting about this account is that the lepers still had every symptom that they'd had moments earlier when indeed, they began their journey to show themselves to the priests.
Apparently, when rising to go to the priests, they must have had a different mindset. Believing they were plagued with leprosy was converted to thoughts of being healed and whole. The scripture tells us that as they went, they were healed. Putting trust in the words spoken to them by Jesus enabled them to walk in faith towards the priests; believing they were healed. Walking towards the priests, I believe there was an expectancy in their hearts and minds compelling them to move forward.
There is such an analogy here of what Jesus has spoken to us today in His Word. 1 Peter 2:24 declares that by His stripes we were healed. That's past tense. We may not understand it - but the Word proclaims it. The lepers likely were confused about Jesus' command to go show themselves to the priests, while symptoms were apparent in their bodies. With symptoms blaring at you day and night, how could you possibly be healed? I don't know! But if you'll start changing your mindset and agree with what the Word declares and start walking towards your healing, things will begin to change.
Romans 8:6 tells us: "To be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace." Rather than aligning your beliefs with what your five senses are revealing to you, choose to align your heart and mind with the Word. After all, we are believers! We are to be spiritually minded and believe what the Word says ~ and as we do, we too will be healed and made whole!
DAILY DECLARATION
I may not understand how I could have been healed by the stripes of Jesus two thousand years ago, but I choose to believe it. In doing so, I make a decision today to walk in the light of that truth. I will magnify the Word above my symptoms and watch as every symptom attacking my body disappears!
