With the Heart One Believes

"For with the heart one believes unto righteousness,

and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation."

Romans 10:10

Notice how believing is with the heart? How often have you spent countless hours trying to believe a spiritual precept with your mind? Romans 8:7 tells us that the carnal (natural) mind is enmity against God. It's with the heart that we believe spiritual principles. This precept is reiterated in 1 Corinthians 2:14 which declares that "the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God...because they are spiritually discerned."

Rarely is believing with the heart instantaneous, although it can be, but rather becoming a 'believing believer' is a process that occurs over time. So, how do we become one who believes with our heart? When the Word talks about the heart, it is not referring to our physical, fleshly heart. But, rather when scripture refers to believing with the heart, it is referring to your inward man, your spirit.

Believing with your heart comes from a regular consumption of spiritual food - the Word of God. As we feed upon the Word of God, our inward man is filled with the reassurance and confidence that God is who He said He is. We are reassured that His Word is true and He will do what He said He would do. If you want to believe with your heart, you must feed your spirit man with the Word of God. The Word is spirit and it is life. (John 6:63) And it is what your spirit-man craves.

We must endeavor to set aside our human reasoning and separate ourselves from what our physical senses are conveying to us. Your spirit must take preeminence over what you see, hear, taste, feel or smell! Jesus stated clearly an Old Testament truth when He declared: "Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every Word that proceeds from the mouth of God." (Matthew 4:4)

DAILY DECLARATION

Father God, thank You that today I am reminded to believe in my heart Your Word only; despite physical evidence to the contrary. Today, with the help of the Holy Spirit, I determine to walk by faith and not be sight. I choose to believe your Word with all my heart.
