Take Your Medicine

Updated: Jan 27, 2023

“My son, give attention to my words;

Incline your ear to my sayings.

Do not let them depart from your eyes;

Keep them in the midst of your heart;

For they are life to those who find them,

And health to all their flesh.”

Proverbs 4:20-22

This past week I wanted to make a pillowcase to coordinate with a quilt I recently finished. I'd never made one before, so I looked up directions for making one. Then I endeavored to follow the directions precisely in order that it would fit and function properly. As I meticulously followed the instructions, it turned out perfectly!

So it is when we are seeking healing and wholeness from our Great Physician. We must follow His directions explicitly to achieve a positive outcome. His divine prescription can be found in the above scripture.

First, we must give our full attention to His Word. That's right - our undivided attention. That means turn off the TV, stop researching on Dr. Google, refuse to allow yourself to be distracted with Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. Rather, give all your attention to the Word. We can't just read it once and expect it to work. We must constantly, diligently read the Word, meditate on it, think on it, and feed our hearts and minds upon it. Joshua 1:8 says not to let it depart from your mouth!

Secondly, we are to incline our ears to His sayings. Open your ears to what God is saying to you. Refuse to listen to the voice of the devil, lab results, doctors' reports, and even well intended family and friends. Remember that faith comes by hearing, so we must be vigilant to silence any voice that does not agree with the Word.

Next, we're instructed to not let them [His Words] depart from our eyes. We must determine to keep our focus on His Word and not on our symptoms. Discipline is a part of this equation, as the devil will constantly try to draw your focus to your physical circumstances and symptoms through your five senses. Focusing on the Word only will help you to 'see' yourself well with your eyes of faith.

Subsequently we are to keep His Word in the midst of our hearts. That means at the very core of your being, in your inner-man, your spirit. What will be the result of following God's prescription for health? Verse 22 says it will be life to those who find them and health to all their flesh. God's Words are your cure; they will make you healthy, strong, and whole if you adhere to His instructions!

DAILY DECLARATION

Thank You, Father that you have provided a remedy for what ails me. I will give my undivided attention to Your Word, fixing my eyes on it, and keeping it in my heart. As I do, I can be assured that it will bring health and wholeness to my whole body!
