Oppressed by the Devil?

Updated: Jan 29, 2023

“Who went about doing good and

healing all who were oppressed by the devil..."

Acts 10:38

Think your health challenge is only physical? Think again! Satan, our adversary, though a defeated foe, is a mastermind at deceiving God's people. As he did in the Garden of Eden, one of his tactics today is to falsify the truth with his lies. One of his most obtrusive and prominent lies when it comes to healing is to present God as the author of sickness and disease. Many Christians today erroneously believe this lie, along with the lie that God sends, or allows sickness and disease, to teach us; so that we may grow spiritually. Often, good, church-going believers embrace and passively submit to this deception rather than resisting the attack on their bodies. We must look to scripture to discern the truth that will set us free and enable us to recover and restore our health.

We find in Deuteronomy 28:15-68 that sickness and disease are referred to as a 'curse' to be brought upon the Israelite's because of disobedience; a punishment and deterrent to sinful behavior. Deuteronomy 28:61 clearly declares that "every sickness and plague, which is not written in this Book of the Law..." is a curse. The good news is that Jesus Christ, through His death, burial, and resurrection, redeemed us from the curse of the Law. (Galatians 3:13)

A much-neglected teaching in our churches and among Christians today, is that the brutal beating and scourging that the Roman soldiers inflicted upon Jesus before He ever got to the cross was the payment, the punishment, for our transgressions. Jesus was your substitute. He accepted the tortuous beating and scourging on His body that we might not have to suffer the consequences of our iniquities in our bodies. Thus 1 Peter 2:24 declares emphatically: "By His stripes, we were healed."

Acts 10:38 substantiates this precept: "How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him." Throughout the New Testament, Jesus consistently demonstrated by His words and actions that sickness and disease clearly do not come from God, but rather from your adversary who came to steal, kill, and destroy. (John 10:10) Sickness and disease are enemies to be resisted. God is a good Father and in would no way do us harm! He is the One who heals us!

DAILY DECLARATION

I refuse to be deceived by the enemy any longer. I resist sickness just like I resist sin. According to God's Word, I am healed, whole, and strong. Romans 8:11 declares that resurrection power flows through every cell in my body infusing me with health, healing, and wholeness. Jesus took my infirmities and bore my sicknesses and by His stripes I AM HEALED!
