It's a Heart Issue

“For with the heart one believes unto righteousness,

and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation."

Romans 10:10

Notice how believing is with the heart. Most of us think of believing as a result of the function of our minds. How often have you spent countless hours trying to believe a spiritual precept with your mind? It took me many years to understand that I was to believe spiritual principles with my heart ~ my spirit, my inner-man. There always seemed to be a conflict between what I believed with my natural senses and what I was to believe according to the Word. Romans 8:7 clarifies that the carnal (natural) mind is enmity against God. It's with the heart that we believe spiritual concepts. This is important to understand.

Rarely is believing with the heart instantaneous, although it can be, but rather becoming a 'believing believer' is a process that occurs over time as we meditate on the Word. As we quietly contemplate and meditate on God's Word, it will sink down from our heads to our hearts. In relation to healing, we must believe with our hearts that we are healed by the stripes of Jesus Christ before we see the manifestation. (1 Peter 2:24)

In the story of the father who brought his epileptic son to Jesus for healing, he cried out: "I believe; help my unbelief." (Mark 9:24) You see, you can have doubt in your mind - the rational, thinking part of yourself, and at the same time, believe with your heart. When you believe with your heart, you must believe apart from what your body and mind are telling you. Thinking is of the mind, whereas believing is a trait of the heart. This kind of believing is totally independent of what your five senses are communicating to you.

Believing with your heart comes from a regular consumption of spiritual food ~ the Word of God. As we feed upon the Word, our inward man is filled with the assurance and confidence that God is who He said He is and will do what He has said He would do. The Word is spirit and life and is the nourishment your spirit-man needs. By feeding your spirit with proper nourishment, it will take preeminence over what you see, hear, taste, touch, and smell. Jesus clearly stated: "Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every Word that proceeds from the mouth of God." Feed on God's Word until you truly believe with your heart!

DAILY DECLARATION

I choose to feed my spirit continually with the Word of God. Not only is it life and health to all my flesh, but it will feed my spirit-man until I believe with my heart. Even when contrary evidence is before me, I choose to believe with my heart.
