“Fear not, only Believe.”
Mark 5:36
Cunning and crafty, the devil loves to attack us with the spirit of fear at our most vulnerable time. Jairus, a ruler of the synagogue, had summoned Jesus that He might come to his home and lay hands on his daughter and heal her; twelve years old, she was very ill, at the point of death. Headed towards his house with the One who would heal his daughter, he then received word that his daughter had died. At his most vulnerable moment, he was now confronted with a spirit of fear. Before Jairus had a chance to succumb to fear, doubt and discouragement, Jesus intercepted and said to him: "Fear not, only believe."
Have you ever felt like that? You're standing strong on the Word, certain of your inevitable victory; then wham ~ suddenly your symptoms are at an all-time high, the lab results are not looking like what you were hoping for, or the doctors' report appears worse than ever. Ugh. What looked possible a few moments ago now looks entirely impossible. Along with those negative reports comes a spirit of fear.
When all the forces of hell are marshaled against your body and your situation looks impossible, you must avoid the temptation to entertain that spirit of fear. At moments like these, it is crucial to recognize the attack and implement a well-thought-out plan to counteract these lies effectively. Notice how in the above example Jesus immediately countered the lie, before the spirit of fear could take root. We must do likewise.
During my healing journey, when I would encounter the spirit of fear, I would arm myself with a card I kept in my bible. I would repeat this once, twice, or however many times it took until I was at peace again. I would speak out loud: "Fear, I'm not putting up with you. 2 Timothy 1:7 says God has not given me a spirit of fear, but one of power, love, and a sound mind. Colossians 1:13 says I have been delivered from the power of darkness and conveyed into the kingdom of the Son of His Love. I am no longer under your dominion, and I command you, spirit of fear, to leave my body now. I resist you. I rebuke you. I refuse to fear. You will no longer dominate my life. I refuse to listen to your lies. Go now, in Jesus' Name! I draw near to God and He draws near to me, filling me with perfect love and peace. I release the healing power of Jesus Christ that dwells within me to fill every cell of my body with His Peace."
When faced with fear, always stop and remind yourself that it is a spirit attacking you. Re-calibrate your thoughts and emotions, refusing the enemy's invitation to engage in doubt and fear. Just like Jairus, we can overcome the attack by standing firm on God's unshakeable Word. Refuse to fear, only believe!
DAILY DECLARATION
I resist the enemy's temptation to enter into thoughts of fear, doubt and unbelief. Instead, I will have a plan in place to counter these attacks and recognize them for what they are; lies and deception of the devil. I will thwart the lies of the enemy and continue to stand on God's unshakable Word despite evidence to the contrary. Like Jairus, I choose to believe only!
