Exercise Your Authority

“For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood,

but against principalities, against powers,

against the rulers of the darkness of this age..."

Ephesians 6:12

When you first became a Christian, were you told you'd be entering into a war? I sure wasn't! Throughout the New Testament the writers admonish us to be aware of the spiritual battle that we are now engaged in. Whether you realize it or not, you are in a battle. Your opponent is unseen, yet an ever-present foe. The goal of your adversary is to steal, kill, and destroy your life. Many good, solid Christians suffer today, physically, and emotionally, because they are unaware of the reality of this clash. Acts 10:38 calls sickness and disease 'spiritual oppression.'

Adam's sin ushered in sickness and disease in the Garden of Eden. Four thousand years later God gave us the remedy for Adam's sin (including sickness and disease), through Jesus Christ. Many believers assume disease is just a natural consequence of everyday life. Yet, Jesus came to destroy the works of the devil (1 John 3:8) and give us the abundant life, which includes healing and wholeness. When we fail to recognize the spiritual influence of our maladies, we suffer the consequences. When we come to know the root of what is afflicting us is spiritual, we will respond differently.

In Luke 10:19 Jesus said: "Behold, I give you authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you." Wow, that's powerful! We have authority in the spiritual realm against the schemes and attacks of the enemy. And that includes every sickness and disease. Christians are often mistakenly fearful and intimidated of engaging with the enemy, but he is nothing but a bully, a defeated foe. Scripture reassures us that Jesus disarmed principalities and powers...triumphing over them. (Colossians 2:15) His only power over you is deception.

This assault on your body is not only physical...it has spiritual roots. There is a real enemy to be dealt with and you, as a believer, have been given the authority to conquer him and win the battle through Jesus Christ. It's up to you to stop the enemy in his tracks. Jesus did the heavy lifting for you ~ now it's your responsibility to exercise the authority given you and enforce the victory He has already won for you!

DAILY DECLARATION

I choose to exercise the authority given to me by Jesus Christ. I trample on the sickness and disease attacking my body in the Name of Jesus Christ. I resist you, devil, and I command you leave my body now and never come back again. I have been healed by the stripes of Jesus Christ. Now, get out in Jesus' Name!
